Background: The
International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for
a nationally recruited position of Facilities Maintenance Assistant.

Duty Station:
This is a Nationally Recruited Position and the incumbent will be based in Dar
es Salaam, Tanzania
Job requirements:
• A degree in Electrical Engineering or Higher Diploma.
• Minimum 2 years' experience including building system and
fleet/vehicle maintenance in a commercial setting
• Graduates with: upper second have an added advantage
• Must be familiar with maintenance of office facilities
• Must be able to work long hours, communicate well, have
good reporting skills and be able to multitask
• Excellent communications skills including verbal and
written English
• Must be proficient in MS Office; excel and word.
• Knowledge of MS Project an added advantage
Responsibilities:
PRIMARY ROLES
To undertake the
following works:
1- BUILDING MAINTENANCE: Monitor and
track the electrical systems and all equipment in use at the buildings
maintained for purposes of ensuring that they function as required. This
includes the wiring, lights, air conditioning, lab equipment, generators,
electric fencing and fire detection system
2- INVENTORY
MANAGEMENT: Ensure that all spare-parts and consumables for these systems
are well stocked and replenished on time.
3- FLEET MANAGEMENT:
To track vehicle use and maintenance on weekly basis and provide reports on the
status. Follow up with drivers to report, garage to repair and payments to be
made in a timely manner
4- REPORTS: To
provide support in the weekly and monthly preparation of reports on electrical
and other related works
5- Any other assignments of that may require the help of an
Electrical Engineer
SECONDARY ROLES
Other duties include providing support to external contractors on the maintenance of the buildings with regards to

a) Construction of buildings; ensuring that electrical
systems are correctly installed and functioning
b) General maintenance of all fixed and loose assets, civil
and mechanical systems
c) Update inventory of spares and consumables for all
running equipment as appropriate
d) Establish and update a database of suppliers and
contractors able to repair all electrical systems
WORK METHODS
e) Ensure SOPs and SLAs for contractors are followed
according to the contracts in place
f) Carry out daily and weekly checks on all equipment
g) Supervise and follow up on work requests and ensure
minimum lead time between request and completion of job
h) Liaise with procurement and finance department to follow
up on LPOs and Payments
i) Provide monthly reports on vehicle status, generators and
utilities

The initial contract for the position is two years with possibility of renewal. This is a nationally recruited position and IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.
