Gatsby Africa is recruiting a Country Director for Tanzania. This new role will strengthen our
credibility, capability and relationships in the country, while empowering programme teams and
enhancing our effectiveness.
Gatsby funds and implements programmes that look to catalyse and influence large-scale and
lasting change in priority sectors, such as cotton in Tanzania. We also build and support local
and regional organisations dedicated to sector transformation.
We aim to capture the learning from these initiatives, think hard about what works and why, and share the lessons with others engaged in similar work – including governments and donors.

The successful candidate will be at the heart of this work. The Country Director will coordinate
cross-cutting support to our programmes in the cotton, textiles and commercial forestry
sectors. They will work closely with the Directors of these programmes on country-team
development and staff engagement, while supporting and ensuring effective processes for
strategy and intervention design, monitoring and reporting, and operational management.
They will use their strong interpersonal and influencing skills to build and sustain excellent seniorlevel
relationships across the private sector, governments and donors. By developing these
networks, the Country Director will not only support our programmes in Tanzania, but help us
learn from others and increase our impact beyond our implementation by sharing our lessons.
They will report to the Executive Director and play a crucial role as part of our Senior
Management Team, helping to inspire and motivate our teams, shape our culture, role model
our values, and bring people together to achieve our ambitious mission.
